When one of Australia’s most popular tourist attractions – the Sydney Aquarium at Darling Harbour – was undertaking a major refurbishment recently, one of the key criteria was taking its “visitor experience” to a whole new level.
Hills SVL (Sound, Vision and Lighting) was called in to help turn that wish into a reality.
Through one of its valued integrated partners, B&H Australia, Hills SVL was asked to provide advice on the best possible solution to producing the finest audio visual equipment available to the Sydney Aquarium, within a specific budget.
The end result is a stunning audio visual system throughout the Aquarium complex which includes five Vivitek full installation projectors that have the ability to broadcast high definition video content 18 hours a day, seven days a week.
White Pointers and other sharks swimming in their natural habitats, general marine life and ocean diving experiences are just some of the footage that is now shown via Sydney Aquarium’s new audio visual system.
“Ever wondered what it would be like to swim alongside a Great White Shark in the ocean without fear of being attacked, or even getting wet?” Sydney Aquarium’s General Manager of Life Sciences, Mr Mark Craig, asked
“Well, now you can at the Sydney Aquarium by viewing the stunning video exhibitions being run via the Vivitek projectors – it really brings the reality of ocean life to Sydney Aquarium in a most visually stunning way” he said.
“The Hills SVL equipment has transformed the Sydney Aquarium’s visitor experience by enhancing our living world of displays through first class technology, stunning and immersive projections and high quality.
“We used Hills SVL equipment because it is the best on the market and provides the quality we are looking for.”
Hills SVL National AV Brand Manager, Dan Fletcher, said: “Working with both a tight timeline and a specific budget, B&H Australia was tasked with finding a solution that not only satisfied specific operational criteria, but most importantly provided an image based upon the expectations of the general public and what they would expect to see inside an attraction with the reputation such as the Sydney Aquarium.
“Utilising a combination of both the Vivitek D6010 (6000 lumens 1280 x 800 WXGA) and the Vivitek D6510 (6500 lumens 1024 x 768 XGA) recommended and supplied by Hills SVL, B&H was able to transform what were once blank walls into an experience designed to give visitors an insight into life below the ocean surface.”
